Monteverde

Monteverde is most likely the best known mountainous destination in Costa Rica. Visit the cloud forest while still enjoying breathtaking sunset views of the Gulf of Nicoya dotted with islands. Perez Zeledon

The area of Perez Zeledon, belonging to the province of San Jose, is a lesser known and beautiful mountainous destination. The Hacienda Altagracia Resort overlooks the General Valley, and is close to Chirripo, the country’s highest peak. Poas Volcano Area

Close to the Poas Volcano and about an hour from San Jose International Airport you’ll find the Peace Lodge. A part of the La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park, the Peace Lodge offers Jacuzzis and fireplaces in all its guestrooms. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, coffee tours, rafting, horseback riding and more in surrounding areas.

San Gerardo de Dota

San Gerardo de Dota is considered by many one of the most beautiful areas in the country of Costa Rica. Many birdwatchers seek it out as being one of the best places to spot the endangered Quetzal, part of the Trogon family. Hiking and trout fishing are also popular activities.
